Wheels Lightweight, but extremely durable, the cast aluminium wheels reduce unsprung weight, helping to maintain tyre contact with the road.

Handlebars Designed for maximum rider input and responsiveness. The wide, upright position provides all-day comfort and an in-command position. Keep your hands warm with heated hand grips, which are now standard equipment on the 2008 Ulysses. The grips are rated at 18 watts per side on the High setting and 11 watts per side on the Low setting.

For 2008, a commemorative Buell 25th Anniversary graphic with Erik Buell's signature is placed on the upper triple clamp.

Windscreen The unique windscreen does more than simply deflect and direct airflow to make your ride more comfortable. Its snap on/snap off design makes cleaning quick and easy.

Seat Covered in a 2-tone high performance fabric, the rider’s seat is spacious, comfortable and allows good movement for aggressive riding.

Passenger Comfort The elevated rear seat offers plenty of room, a backrest provides added comfort and grab rails enable active passenger riding.

Foot Pegs Located in a comfortable natural position, the foot peg placement is perfect for riding as well as when you need to get up off the seat for unpaved roads. The wide platform, rugged metal teeth will also ensure that your feet will stay secure.

Durability Features The frame pucks, headlight grille, handlebar deflectors, a full rear fender and double front fender offer protection.

Front Suspension 43mm Showa inverted fork with 165mm of travel is fully adjustable to accommodate a wide range of riders and riding conditions. It delivers the right setup no matter what road you're on, or off.

Rear Suspension Simple as turning a dial, the rear shock preload easily adjusts for two-up riding, fully packed bags or both. (Helmet lock also shown.)

Tyres The Pirelli® Scorpion Sync tyres combines the best street sport and off-road tyre technology available. The hybrid tyre construction delivers all the performance and confidence you need on the street, while providing good traction off road.

Swingarm The massive, but lightweight aluminium swingarm contributes to frame rigidity for improved handling. By pulling double duty as the oil reservoir, it also helps to centralise the mass of the bike.

Frame The aluminium frame is both lightweight and incredibly rigid, improving the bike’s stability in corners. By housing the 16.7 litres of fuel, it also lowers the centre of gravity, making it feel light and flickable. New air guides positioned on the tail section deflect engine heat away from the rider's legs.

Front Brake The Zero Torsional Load (ZTL™) Braking System consists of a 375 mm rotor mounted to the wheel’s perimeter and a 6-piston caliper. When applied, it transfers braking forces (torsional load) directly to the rim instead of through the spokes. Without the need for load-bearing spokes or even a second disc, the bike’s front end weighs in about 3 kg lighter than what you’d find on most dual disc set-ups.

Mass Centralised Exhaust Our patented underslung exhaust concentrates the weight underneath the chassis. You know, where it belongs. It’s called Mass Centralisation and it’s been a Buell staple since 1985. The result is a clean, uncluttered look and improved handling and control.

In addition – the Ulysses® XB12X features an InterActive Exhaust system, which delivers super-smooth torque while optimising engine power and efficiency across a wide variety of engine performance conditions. Using sophisticated modelling software, engineers identified distinct engine tuning improvements that could be made by electronically altering the gas flow path between two different length chambers within the muffler. The result? Strong, smooth acceleration with legendary Buell torque-pull and a rich exhaust note.

Enhanced Air Cooling After you turn off a motorcycle, the oil begins to break down, causing potentially harmful engine damage. Unless that motorcycle is a Buell®. The thermostatically-controlled fan continues to cool the oil even after you pull the key. It also has you covered if you happen to get stuck in traffic, or need to stop and check the map. It’s one more thing we’ve done to make sure the Ulysses® XB12X is ready for discovery.

Belt Drive The aramid-reinforced Goodyear Hibrex® belt isn’t just tough, it’s convenient. No lubrication. No regular maintenance. No scheduled replacement. No adjustments either, thanks to the unique idler pulley. It does away with driveline slop and puts instant power from wrist to road.

Triple Tail™ System This unique Buell innovation easily adjusts between three positions designed around comfort, convenience and ride enhancement. The passenger backrest features a subtle flex for added comfort while two different luggage rack positions and integrated tie-down hooks are designed to easily secure the load while keeping the weight centralised whether you are riding with a passenger or alone.

Engine Powering the Ulysses® is a Thunderstorm® 1203cc, 45-degree V-Twin. A stump-pulling, gut-wrenching, air-cooled torque machine. With its broad powerband, this engine brings the power wherever and whenever you want it.

For 2008, Buell advances the performance of its air/oil/fan-cooled Thunderstorm® V-Twin engine series with a larger crank pin, an improved oiling system, and a new electronic timing system and ECM that controls an all new DDFI 3 fuel injection system. Combined, these changes improve drivability and performance, and reduce service maintenance costs. Also new for 2008, the Thunderstorm® 1203 redline is increased to 7100 rpm from 6800 rpm, giving this engine an even broader powerband, and riders the ability to accelerate longer and downshift at a higher rpm.

Chassis A rigid chassis reduces flex and contributes to more stability in the turns. Our patented Uniplanar™ Mounting system goes so far as to use the engine as a stressed member of the frame, further improving the bike’s solid handling characteristics. The steering sweep lock-to-lock is increased on 2008 models to 74 degrees from 54 degrees to reduce the turning radius in off-road low-speed maneuvers. The wheelbase measures 54 inches with 4.8 inches of trail, making the Ulysses® very nimble and reactive, and with 6.5 inches of suspension travel – you’ll have the ground clearance you need to get you around even the roughest corners.
