Available in an athletic 3-door, or versatile 5-door version, the A-Class is a city car and family hatchback rolled into one. Beneath its stylish exterior, you’ll find the A-Class deceptively spacious with a luxurious interior, and packed with the best and latest Mercedes-Benz innovations.

Features

  • Distinctively stylish: With its sweeping and dynamic redesign, the A-Class exudes fresh confidence and energy, while retaining all the Mercedes-Benz hallmarks. The short bonnet, teardrop headlamps, flared wings, and coupé-style roof give the A-Class a powerful, streamlined presence on the road, while the 3-door version boasts coupé-style doors and a sleeker, sportier rear.
  • Targeted control: The A-Class is equipped with an intelligent braking and handling technology that maximises safety. The latest Electronic Stability Programme (ESP®) with Acceleration Skid Control (ASR) compensates for driver error even more precisely by counteracting skids and applying the brakes to individual wheels and adjusting engine power exactly when and where it's needed.
  • Suspend your disbelief: The revised chassis design and tuned suspension deliver enhanced ride comfort and uncompromised driving dynamics. A patented rear-axle system has been developed for the A-Class, enabling well-balanced, sportier handling, minimising vibrations, reducing tyre wear and providing superb roll support on corners.

  • Shift into a new gear: In addition to the trusted 5-speed manual transmission available in the

A 150, A 170, A 200 and A 160 CDI, a 6-speed manual transmission has been introduced as standard on the A 180 CDI and A 200 CDI and A 200 Turbo.

Mercedes-Benz is also proud to present the next generation in automatic transmission technology - AUTOTRONIC. This is an optional continuously variable transmission system that constantly adapts to your driving, balancing performance and comfort while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Cruise control with speedtronic variable speed limiter also comes standard with AUTOTRONIC. This improves safety by allowing you to set maximum speed limits which, if exceeded, can alert the driver with a warning tone.

  • Effortless driving: The A-Class is now even easier to handle. The power assistance is still generated by an electric motor, but it is now transferred mechanically instead of hydraulically. Not only do you benefit from improved steering comfort, but the new design also saves energy and simplifies servicing.

  • Compact, powerful, efficient:More output, more torque, and less fuel consumption come as standard with the exciting new range of engines available for the A-Class.

The four petrol engines (A 150, A 170, A 200 and A 200 Turbo) have been modified and redesigned, with noticeable increases in torque levels, displacement and acceleration. The A 200 Turbo can achieve an impressive output of 193 hp, and a torque level of 280 Nm. The diesel line-up boasts three newly developed engines: the A 160 CDI (82 hp / 180 Nm), the A 180 CDI (109 hp / 250 Nm) and the commanding A 200 CDI (140 hp / 300 Nm) complete with VNT turbocharger.

  • Aero-acoustics:It’s never been so quiet inside an A-Class! Sophisticated aero-acoustic innovations including a stiffer bodyshell, thicker all-round door seals and revised exterior mirror positioning prevent excess wind noise from disturbing your journey.
  • Seats:Shaped to provide better support for your body, raised to give you additional legroom, and covered in high-quality fabric (or optional leather), everything about the A-Class seating says luxury and comfort. Active head restraints on the front seats combine comfort and safety, while all five head restraints are fully adjustable for height and angle, and the 2/3:1/3-split rear seats fold down to offer a variety of versatile space options.
In the 3-door A-Class, release handles on the upper corners of the front seat backrests make accessing the back extremely straightforward. You can also tailor your comfort level with a range of additional seating options, from electric seat adjustment to removable seating (EASY-VARIO SYSTEMS).

  • Sunroof:Choose the sunroof as an optional extra on any A-Class and enjoy the open air from inside your car! The A-Class' electric panoramic louvered sunroof provides a considerably larger opening than conventional sunroofs. A scratch and UV-resistant coating offers added protection, while a two-blind screen allows you to reduce draughts and provides extra shade.
  • Audio systems: The state-of-the-art entertainment options for the A-Class will be music to your ears. Four superb audio systems are available, including the entry-level AUDIO 5 CD with radio and CD player (standard on the Classic), the versatile AUDIO 20 CD (standard on the Classic SE, Elegance SE and Avantgarde SE), or the optional COMAND APS with CD player, DVD navigation system and colour display. You can also upgrade to an eight speaker tweeter and woofer system, or an harman/kardon® LOGIC7 surround sound system. And if you want uninterrupted music for those longer journeys, there is room in the glove compartment for an optional 6-CD changer.
  • Interior lighting: You can shed light on any area of the A-Class, as and when you need to. A front interior light and reading light come as standard, along with an independent rear light, and an illuminated glove compartment and boot. The Elegance SE and Avantgarde SE feature entrance and signal lights on the doors, as well as an ambient and signal light on the tailgate. An optional lighting package adds a number of reading, footwell and vanity lights.
  • Parktronic:This intelligent optional parking assistant uses ultrasound signals from the front and rear bumpers which are reflected by any obstacles. The display indicates how much space you have available and if the gap shrinks below 35cm, you receive an audible warning. Parktronic makes parking easier and more precise, and minimises the risk of accidents.
  • Passenger cell: The revolutionary sandwich concept ensures that the A-Class offers a level of passenger protection unparalleled in a compact car. The passenger safety cell is made up of a complex system of strengthened beams and strong contacts, while seats are positioned 20 cm higher than most cars, keeping passengers above the critical impact zone. During a frontal collision, the engine and transmission intelligently slide beneath the passenger cell rather than into the vehicle towards the passengers.

To help reduce injury in the event of side impacts, head/thorax airbags are also fitted in the front as standard.
